A Funchal night runs in three moves: poncha in the Zona Velha from about 21:00, cocktails in the centre or on a hotel rooftop, then the late clubs at the Vespas complex on Avenida Sá Carneiro or Rua do Favila after midnight. Bars close between 00:00 and 02:00; clubs open at 23:00 and run to 04:00–06:00 at weekends. Everything is walkable — the Old Town to the port is fifteen minutes on foot — and a cross-city taxi is €6–€12.

Zona Velha (Old Town)

19:00 – 01:00, clubs to 04:00

Where the evening starts. Rua de Santa Maria and Rua da Alfândega — poncha tascas, painted doors, street musicians. Standing-room drinking rather than table service, and it fills between 21:00 and midnight. Two late clubs sit inside the quarter itself.

Hotel zone & rooftops

17:30 – 01:00

Estrada Monumental and Avenida do Infante. Sundowners with a view — the Savoy Palace's 16th-floor skybar, hotel rooftops, cocktails at €8–€12. Smart-casual, sunset is the point, and it is the one part of Funchal nightlife that peaks before 21:00.

Port & Avenida Sá Carneiro

23:00 – 06:00

The late end. The Vespas complex on Avenida Sá Carneiro holds several rooms under one roof, so the crowd moves between them rather than across town. Nothing happens here before midnight; Friday and Saturday run until dawn.

City centre

18:00 – 02:00

Rua da Carreira, Rua dos Murças and the streets behind the marina. Cocktail bars, Irish pubs, wine rooms and a couple of small clubs — the in-between district you cross on the way from dinner to somewhere later.
