Reid's Palace has hosted everyone from Winston Churchill to George Bernard Shaw since 1891, and its champagne bar is the most elegant seat in Funchal. Small plates of canapés, smoked fish, cheese bites and candied nuts, arrive alongside your glass while the whole amphitheatre of the city and its harbour spreads out below.
