Madeira Info is a small, locally-researched guide to the Atlantic island of Madeira. Every trail, beach, town and viewpoint on the site is hand-curated by people who walk the levadas and eat the bolo do caco.

Mike is Scottish and arrived in Madeira in 1998, originally based in Funchal before moving to the quieter coastal village of Caniço de Baixo around 2002. With more than 20 years in travel, he runs property on the island and operates several Madeira-based online businesses through Halcyon Pulse, a Madeira-focused property and travel company he founded. He edits Madeira Info personally, and also runs Days Off Atlas, a worldwide public-holiday and school-break calendar.
Roberto Henriques is Madeiran. He and Mike met in 1999 and have worked together ever since. Roberto is the property manager for Holiday Home Madeira, Madeira Escapes and Holiday Rentals Madeira, while Mike also handles property management and runs those businesses alongside their small team.

How we verify
We try to visit every place on the site, but Madeira's a big island with a lot of trails, beaches, restaurants and viewpoints, and conditions change week to week. That's why reader feedback matters: guests and locals who message in with corrections, recent photos and "this levada is closed" notes are a huge part of how this site stays accurate and keeps growing.
- Dated, first-person observations. Trail pages carry a conditions log with the date a person walked the route and what they saw. Stale entries are flagged.
- Live data, not stale text. Weather, sea state, airport wind and webcams are wired to official sources (Open-Meteo, IPMA) and refresh every few minutes, see /today.
- Reader corrections, fast. Anyone can email a fix and we update the entity page (and its JSON-LD) the same week: see Contact & corrections below.
- Traceable sources. We link important claims to official or primary sources wherever possible, so readers can check the information themselves.
- Real photographs only. Every image on the site was taken on the island: never AI-generated: and the ones we shoot ourselves are collected in the Madeira photo gallery.
Open data & developer resources
Madeira Info also publishes structured data under CC-BY 4.0 for developers, researchers and travel tools, including JSON-LD, a Model Context Protocol endpoint, and downloadable bundles at /llms.txt and /llms-full.txt. Reuse requires attribution to madeirainfo.comand a link to the relevant page.
How this site makes money
- Listings are free. Any restaurant, bar, cafe, car-hire desk, transfer company or tour operator can be listed at no cost, and nothing about the listing changes if they never pay us a penny.
- Optional paid plans. Businesses in a few categories can pay a small monthly fee to show their contact details or receive enquiries through the site. Paid placement is always labelled as such where it appears.
- Booking links. Some links to accommodation, car hire and activities earn us a commission if you book through them, at no extra cost to you. They never change what we recommend or how a place is described.
- Ratings are not for sale. No business can pay for an Estrelícia rating, a better position in a guide, or the removal of something unflattering, and we pay our own bills when we eat somewhere we intend to rate.
