Visiting the site

Our hosting provider records basic request data (IP address, browser, page and time) to keep the site secure and working. These logs are deleted automatically after a short period.

If you allow it, we use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful. It sets cookies and sends Google your IP address, browser details and the pages you view. If you agree, Microsoft Clarity also records anonymous clicks and scrolling (never what you type) so we can fix confusing pages. You can change these choices any time from Privacy choices in the footer. We don't use advertising trackers or social media pixels.

If a page crashes, an error report with the page address and error message may be sent so we can fix it.

Embedded services

Some pages show content loaded directly from other services, which then receive your IP address and browser details under their own privacy policies: YouTube (live webcams and videos), Windy and Meteoblue (weather), and map tile providers (maps and walking routes).

Weather, sea and bus data we fetch on our own server doesn't pass any visitor data to anyone.

Accounts

If you create an account, we store your email address, the sign-in method (Google or email) and when you joined. If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your name and email address.

Your email is never shown publicly and never passed on to anyone.

Photographs you contribute

We store each photograph, your credit name and any links, advice or dates you add, plus the licence version you accepted and when.

Photographs can contain hidden details such as location and camera model. We use the location only to work out and check which place the photo shows. It is kept privately during review and deleted once the photo is approved, rejected or removed. It is never published or shown on a map. Camera details are never shown publicly.

Location data is removed from the published copy of every photograph.

Emails and messages

If you email us, we keep what you send so we can reply. We don't add anyone to a mailing list.

Why we use your data

To provide your account and publish the photographs you send (because you asked us to), to keep the site secure and understand how it's used (our legitimate interest), and to keep a record that we had your permission to publish a photograph.

How long we keep it

Account details, photographs and permission records are kept for as long as you have an account and haven't asked us to delete them, or until madeirainfo.com closes, whichever comes first.

Server logs are deleted automatically after a short period. Emails are kept only as long as needed to deal with them.

Who can see it

Only Madeira Info. Our data is stored with our hosting and database providers, who process it for us. We don't sell personal data or share it with anyone else, unless the law requires it.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it, take a copy, object to how we use it, or have it deleted. When you close your account, your photographs come off the site straight away and you can choose to delete everything.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Portuguese data protection authority, CNPD (cnpd.pt).

Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Madeira Info accepts no liability for any loss arising from use of the site or from services run by others that we link to or embed.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the current version.
