About Madeira Flower Festival
Madeira Flower Festival is Madeira translating its January-to-April growing season into a parade. Floats sheathed entirely in petals move through Funchal, and the days either side of the main cortejo turn the whole city centre into a florist's back room, carpets of blossoms, wall installations, children in flower headdresses.
Book accommodation in Funchal 4–6 months out, the whole city trades on this week and rooms with balconies over the parade route go earliest. If you miss the main cortejo, the flower carpets along Avenida Arriaga stay in place for two more days.
The Festa da Flor (Madeira Flower Festival) is the most emblematic and colourful event in the Madeira archipelago. For several weeks Funchal fills with the scent of flowers and thousands of visitors. The 2027 festival runs from 29 April to 30 May.

- Photograph early. The best light and the smallest crowds are usually in the first hour of the programme, not the headline slot.
