From pier to city
Arriving in Funchal by cruise ship
Ships dock at the Pontinha pier, right on the Funchal seafront. The walk along the flat promenade to the Old Town takes about 20 minutes.
Taxis wait at the port entrance, and the hop-on hop-off buses start from the seafront.
On days with two or more ships, go up to Monte on the cable car early or late, and leave the Old Town lunch until after the crowds head back on board.
