Contributor terms
These terms cover photographs you contribute to The Madeira Collective. They are separate from the Creative Commons licence that covers the rest of this site.
Licence version: contributor-licence-v2 · Last updated 26 September 2026
The short version
You keep the copyright. We publish them here with your credit on them, and you can ask us to take any of them down whenever you like.
- You still own it. Sell it, licence it, post it anywhere, nothing changes.
- While your photograph is published, your credit stays on it, linked to your profile.
- We may resize, crop and compress so pages load fast. We won't add filters or misrepresent what it shows.
- We won't sell it or licence it to anyone else, and it isn't covered by the Creative Commons licence on the rest of our content.
- We use the location data in your photo to work out which place it is and to check it, then we delete it. We never publish it or show it on a map.
- Ask us to remove a photograph and it comes out of public view straight away.
The full terms
1. Who these terms are between
These terms are between you (the contributor) and Madeira Info, operated by Halcyonpulse Unipessoal LDA (run by Mike McCabe), which operates madeirainfo.com ("we", "us").
2. You keep ownership
You keep the copyright in every photograph you contribute. You can sell, licence or publish the same photograph anywhere else, at any time. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership to us.
3. The permission you give us
- You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free permission to publish the photograph on madeirainfo.com and on Madeira Info's own social media channels, to help travellers find and understand the places shown.
- We can't pass this permission on to anyone else or sell it. The only exception is if someone else takes over running madeirainfo.com, in which case it continues on these same terms.
- The permission lasts while the photograph is published and ends when it is removed.
4. Your credit
Wherever we publish your photograph, your chosen name or handle appears with it, linked to your contributor page where the format allows. While the photograph is published, the credit stays attached.
5. What we will not do
- We won't sell your photograph or licence it to anyone else.
- We won't apply filters or edit it in a way that misrepresents the place or the conditions. We may resize, crop and compress it so pages load quickly.
- Your photograph is not covered by the Creative Commons licence on the rest of our content.
6. What you confirm when you submit
- You took the photograph yourself and have the right to share it.
- Anyone clearly identifiable in it, other than you, has agreed to appear.
- It is a real photograph, not generated or extended by AI.
- You took it safely and lawfully, on marked paths, and not with a drone where drones are banned.
- You are at least 16 years old, or a parent or guardian agrees to you taking part.
7. Checking and publishing
A person checks every photograph before it goes up. We may decline or remove a photograph, usually because of quality, a duplicate, or coverage we already have, and we'll tell you why. We may also move a photograph to a more fitting place page. Submitting a photograph doesn't guarantee it will be published.
8. Removal and closing your account
- Ask us to remove a photograph and we take it out of public view straight away, then delete it and confirm that to you.
- If you close your account, all your contributed photographs are unpublished immediately, and you can choose to have the files and records deleted entirely.
- We keep a private record of each submission, its licence version and the time you accepted it for as long as you have an account and haven't asked us to delete it, or until madeirainfo.com closes, whichever comes first.
9. Your personal data
How we handle your account details, photographs and the location data inside them is explained in our privacy policy. In short: location data is used only to identify and check the place, then deleted, and is never published or shown on a map. Your email and camera details are never shown publicly.
10. No payment
Contributing is voluntary and unpaid. It doesn't create any employment, agency or partnership between you and us.
11. Liability
- To the fullest extent the law allows, Madeira Info accepts no liability for any loss or damage arising from your contribution, from the use or removal of your photographs, or from the site being unavailable.
- You are responsible for your own safety while taking photographs. Nothing on this site is an invitation to go anywhere unsafe or closed.
- If a photograph you submitted breaks the promises in section 6, you are responsible for that, not us.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Each version has its own number, and every photograph keeps the version you accepted when you sent it. If a change would affect photographs you've already sent, we'll ask you first.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by Portuguese law. Any dispute goes to the courts of Funchal, without taking away any rights you have under the law of the country where you live.
