Funchal → Estrela Calheta (the stop on the main road above Calheta) takes about 1½ hours on the fast-road trip (12:00 → 13:30) and about 3 hours on the slow coastal trip (08:05 → 11:00). Ponta do Pargo is about 2¼–3¾ hours.

Last bus back

Last bus back to Funchal leaves Ponta do Pargo at 14:35 every day (arrives Funchal 17:30). From Calheta (Estrela) the last leaves at 15:15.

When to use it

For Ponta do Sol and the lighthouse at Ponta do Pargo. For Calheta beach and marina you need the Vila Calheta stop down in the village, not Estrela Calheta up on the main road — only a few trips call at Vila Calheta, so check that row on the official timetable. It's a long day out, so check the return time before you go.

Things to know

• The last bus back from Ponta do Pargo is early — 14:35.
• Via Rápida (fast road) trips skip Câmara de Lobos and are much quicker.
• The 18:20 weekday trip runs as line 139 as far as Ribeira Brava.
• SIGA is giving this carreira new numbers from 390 to 399, with different numbers for each route and for outbound and return trips. See the official list at siga.madeira.gov.pt/horarios/2018.
• No buses on 25 December.
