What you're looking at
This camera looks east along Porto Santo's nine kilometres of golden sand from near Vila Baleira, the island's only town. In frame you get the shallow turquoise shelf that makes the water here so much warmer than Madeira's, the low dunes behind the beach and the volcanic headlands at the far end, with Ilhéu de Cima sitting off the point. Unlike Madeira's dark basalt coastline, everything here is pale limestone-sand and open sky — the contrast is obvious the moment you compare this feed with the Seixal or Porto Moniz cameras.
Best time to check this camera
Check it the morning you plan to take the Porto Santo Line ferry: the beach is exposed to the north-east, so if you can see whitecaps and a wind-flattened shoreline the two-and-a-half-hour crossing will be lively. Midday shows how busy the sand is, which matters in August when the island's population multiplies. Sunrise over the water is the standout light here, and because Porto Santo is dry and largely cloud-free it is often clear in this feed when every Madeira camera is grey.
Is the ferry crossing going to be rough, and is the beach busy?
- If the view is clear:
- Nine kilometres of golden sand and the warmest water in the archipelago.
- If it's grey or rough:
- Whitecaps in frame mean a lively two-and-a-half-hour crossing on the Lobo Marinho.

Questions about this camera
What can you see on the Porto Santo webcam?
The camera shows Porto Santo's golden beach and the seafront at Vila Baleira, looking east along the sand towards the island's volcanic headlands and Ilhéu de Cima. It covers the shallow turquoise bathing water, the dunes and the sea state on the island's exposed north-eastern side.
Does the Porto Santo webcam help decide whether to take the ferry?
It is a useful sanity check. Visible whitecaps, spray and an empty wind-swept beach usually mean an uncomfortable crossing from Funchal, while a flat shoreline and calm water suggest a smooth trip. Combine it with the official Porto Santo Line sailing status before booking.
