The camera stands at the Cruz da Caldeira viewpoint above Câmara de Lobos and sweeps south-east across the terraced hillside towards Funchal. Below the lens are the poios — the drystone vineyard terraces that produce Madeira wine — and the banana plantations that run down to the sea, with the fishing harbour Winston Churchill famously painted tucked into the bay. On a clear day the coastline is legible all the way to the Ponta do Garajau headland at the far side of Funchal.
Best time to check this camera
Late afternoon is the reason to check this camera: the low sun rakes across the terraces and picks out every retaining wall, which is why photographers gather at this viewpoint before sunset. Mornings are usually clearest for long-distance visibility towards Funchal. If you are planning to drive up to Cabo Girão, this feed is a good proxy for whether that clifftop skywalk will be above or below the cloud.

Yes, the fishing bay that Churchill painted in 1950 sits in the middle distance of the frame, along with the coloured boats drawn up on the shingle. The wider view also covers the vineyard terraces above the village and the coast running east to Funchal.
Is this camera useful for checking Cabo Girão?
It is a reasonable stand-in. Cabo Girão is a few kilometres west at a similar height, so when the Cruz da Caldeira view is clear the skywalk usually is too; low cloud in this frame generally means the cliff platform will be white-out.
