This is the bar on Praia da Laje itself, at the eastern end of Seixal's beach — you eat on the cobbles with waves breaking over the lava rocks metres away and the Ilhéus da Ribeira da Janela sea stacks on the horizon. It's the natural stop after a swim at the beach or the Seixal natural pools.
The chalkboard menu is short and local: starters of bolo do caco (€3.50) and a sizzling platter of grilled lapas — limpets with garlic butter and lemon (€18). Mains come with a side dish included: atum escabeche (marinated tuna, €15), grilled tuna steak (€26), beef steak (€24), charuteiro/amberjack (€26) and dourada (sea bream, €21). Desserts are passionfruit cheesecake (€5.50) and pastel de nata (€2).
Drinks lean holiday-mode: sangria by the glass, passionfruit caipirinhas and spritzes, plus Coral on tap. Expect queues for a terrace table on sunny summer weekends — the north coast does casual better than anywhere else on the island.
